"Dear readers, welcome to the second episode of Brothers of Buses. But this time, we take a little detour. Today’s story isn’t from a bus—but from a municipal junk cart.

It was the earlier part of the day on the 5th of August, 2025, when I received a call from an unknown number. Normally, I don’t answer such calls. But somehow—instinct, luck, or coincidence—I picked up.

Voice of a young adult spoke from the other end, “Is this Mrinmoy Buragohain?” and I said “Yes”.

He said “I have got your id cards, you can take them from me”.

Thinking of it to be the perfect morning scam, I said “Oh! Really? Which id cards are you talking about?”

Him: “One SBI card, some Axis Bank cards, driving license, University id cards and one of Guwahati Press Club”

I was perplexed because those were my cards which I always kept together in a bunch and started checking my pockets. Truly enough, my card pouch was not in my pockets.

With no response from my end, he spoke again “I am near Shankardev Hospital now. You can collect your cards from there”.

I spoke again, “But I am in Duliajan now”. Yes, office had started; I was in Dibrugarh the last night and that’s when the pouch must have fallen off.

Him: “Oh! But I can’t be here too long. I work for Dibrugarh Municipality and must keep moving”

I requested him to wait for a few minutes, called up my bhaanje Rishi, asked him to visit the spot at the earliest. Rishi reached and found this guy waiting with the bunch of id cards. It was now that we came to know that the guy worked for the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation as a picker. And when Rishi tried to offer him a token of gratitude, he refused—again and again.

How did he find my phone number?

I was lucky enough to have the visiting card of Abhishek from JayBee Auto Agency inside the pouch. So, this guy went ahead to call Abhishek, took my contact number from him and called me so that I could get my cards returned.

He is the Hero we need, but maybe just not the one we deserve.

I don’t know his name because I never asked, but his number on my phone is saved as “Good Dada”.
